Car Explosion/Accident at Rainbow Bridge?

Initial reports of the vehicle originating in Canada may have been wishful thinking to avoid labeling this as homegrown terrorism.

And, it could be as simple as an accident or stupidity.
It is a standard US knee-jerk response. The N/E blackout of 2003, 9/11 highjackers, and probably the original sin, all started from here.

I don't know the area well enough but if it came from Canada and was sent to secondary from primary, it got up quite a head of steam in a short distance.

When you aren't even sure how many people were in the car, that sort of makes 'the condition of the remains' as a huge understatement.

Let's build a northern border wall. We'll make it out of snow and it can be a seasonal make-work project.

That was the initial report. Came from Canada and was referred. Did a hard u turn and charged the port. In fact, it's now confirmed - so far - the vehicle originated in the US and was seen speeding away from a nearby casino on the American side.

Well we will be right one of these days, broken clock and all.
;)

Pretty shitty start to Thanksgiving down here.

My first thought when the incident broke was this was an attack related to Thanksgiving with the intent of messing with US transportation infrastructure on the cusp of the busiest travel block of the year.

You and I both.

Generally cars just don’t explode, so I’m not buying the whole ‘no terrorist link’ presser from the NY Governor.

They are sometimes filled with a flammable liquid.

I’ve shot a lot of cars over the years. The only ones that have exploded have had explosive packages in them.

Even a full belt of API-T will just make a glorious car fire - and not go high order.

When gas tanks do explode they aren’t really that impressive as the fuel content in them to get the proper fuel/ air mix isn’t that much - and usually the tank just burns if near a flame when ruptured. — unless it’s a TV show or movie.

This article has the best video so far, imbedded in an attached tweet. It doesn’t even look like it made it to primary, and it was hauling ass. A pillar blocks the view of whatever the car launched off of, but that’s some Dukes of Hazzard shit right there.

Even something like a nitrous tank won't go up too much.

Could have been something weird like the fuel tank rupturing and spraying atomized fuel at that kind of high impact speed that ignited; but that would have a sub sonic pressure wave which would be a pretty distinctive sound compared to an explosion. Deflagrations are pretty weird, and have a sort of a whump sound but still have enough pressure to do some pretty good damage. Would have to be a pretty weird series of events though so some kind of explosion seems more likely.

Forensics will tell but my money is on a couple of turkeys who stole a car and were trying to make a break for it.

What a brilliant idea, we've stolen a car . The local cops will be on us in minutes . Hey I've got a brilliant idea let's try and jump an international border .
What could possibly go wrong?
To quote a corrections officer I used to know.
"We don't as a general rule of thumb get much in the way of Rocket Scientist's in here ."

Husband and wife.

Old fashioned, but spectacular, murder-suicide?

Or maybe layman witnesses and news reporters simply called it an explosion without knowing the difference.

I've seen both closer then I'd like too; both have pretty big pucker factor, and it's a bit of an academic arguement anyway.
