Car Explosion/Accident at Rainbow Bridge?

Lots of imagery on Twitter showing a pretty mangled car- not at all consistent with simply catching fire from a mishap.

Not a lot of info yet but my first inclination would be some sort of malicious act.

Usual caveat: first reports are usually speculative bullshit. Second reports are usually intentional or manipulated bullshit. Gonna take some time to get something straight.

The Daily mail - as usual - is ahead of everyone else.

🍻
Whereas my video says US side towards Canada....

Bingo..

Local news on the US side has witnesses reporting a car sped towards the border on the US city streets, and ‘wrong-wayed’ into the inboundUS customs inspection station before detonating. Initial reports of two vehicle occupants deceased and a border guard injured. I wouldn’t put much stock in this but it’s what we’ve got so far.

CNN is reporting that customs officials had redirected the vehicle for a secondary screening just prior to the explosion. Secondary screening parking would be through the gate and you pull off to the side and park. If that is correct, they may have drove off and turned around to ram the crossing.

Is there more than one vehicle involved?
All reports say one vehicle, majority of articles are saying originally came from Canada. My explanation for the witness would be as I suggested. It’s purely speculation based on the report that CNN said customs officials directed the vehicle to secondary. When you get to the border coming from Canada, secondary parking is US side of the border. The twitter reporter added an update linked below.

BREAKING: A senior Canadian military official has spoken with me directly. They say "It's gonna get worse," after describing the explosion as a terrorist attack via a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device VBIED. EXCLUSIVE REPORT:

One doesn't usually drive this fast at the border crossing

Anyone in a position to actually know anything this early isn’t going to be talking to Keean Bexte.

It’s way too early to have much confidence in anything. Another possibility is ever something as simple as a joyride/stolen that lost control at high speed and crashes. The road on the US side leading to the border crossing is a long, straight boulevard- east to get a lot of speed there. The car was described as hitting something and going airborne. From the limited videos of the explosion it’s hard to tell, but I wouldn’t say it’s at least an obvious high-order detonation.

Could be a few different things. Lots of quick preliminary forensic work will get 80% there, but that doesn’t mean we’ll hear quickly.

I’m only sharing information that’s available, nothing is certain at this point. Not trying to make concrete claims.

I went to check that Twitter page. I wished I hadn’t.

Just in from CNN

Authorities have identified the registered owner of vehicle, but are now uncertain about number of passengers

From CNN's John Miller and Zach Cohen

Authorities have identified the registered owner of the vehicle involved in the incident on the Rainbow Bridge, law enforcement sources tell CNN.
The car came from the US side and was traveling toward Canada, according to a law enforcement source and another source briefed on the investigation.
Law enforcement officials have conducted a video canvass of the surrounding area in the hours since the incident occurred and found the car appears to have been at a nearby New York casino before the incident. This is one reason officials are urging caution in labeling the explosion as an attempted terrorist attack, the law enforcement source said.
The FBI is working to identify the bodies of the dead occupant or occupants in the car and see if there's any evidence of explosives, both sources said.
Authorities are trying to determine whether the car is registered to the driver at the scene, but the condition of the remains has made it difficult for authorities to determine the identity of the driver, multiple sources told CNN.
It has also created a challenge for authorities in assessing if there were one or two people in the car. Law enforcement originally believed there were two individuals in the car, but they are now not certain.

When you aren't even sure how many people were in the car, that sort of makes 'the condition of the remains' as a huge understatement.

So far, doesn't seem like any major injuries outside the vehicle, so good thing I guess?

According to a briefing given by the Governor of New York, there is no indication that this is terrorist related.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said there was “no indication of a terrorist attack” in the vehicle crash and explosion that left two people dead at a checkpoint on the American side of a U.S.-Canada bridge on Wednesday.

“Based on what we know at this moment,” she said, “there is no sign of terrorist activity in this crash.”

The vehicle was speeding from Niagara Falls, New York, toward the Rainbow Bridge. It connects the two countries across the Niagara River. The incident prompted the closing of the border crossing and three others in the area.

Supposedly the bridge has been reopened to traffic.
