Just a shot in the dark here:
My grandfather - going on 92 this year and still kicking - has finally had to give up living at home with my grandmother back in Ottawa. While he's going into an assisted living residence very close-by (a matter of blocks away) he's no longer "at home" and despite his refusal to complain and standard stiff upper-lip, I know it's going to take him a while to get used to it.
Anyway like I said, shot in the dark here, but he was a Sapper back in the war; did his training in Pet before going over and spent five years in Europe. Next time I'm back home I'll have to ask him exactly what unit he belonged to (I recall him saying 30-something-bridging-company) but I would imagine the spiritual successor to whatever unit he belonged to would today be 2CER. I'm wondering if there is anything that 2CER kit shop or something would be willing to do/create/sell/whatever (I'll be covering the cost) to help me make his new place/room a little more like home. I was just thinking something like a 2CER flag, picture, figurine - anything, just something sentimental.
So is there anyone here from 2CER that would know how to go about doing something like? Or maybe just offer me a point of contact? I would really love for the Army to do something sentimental for him in his last few years here.
Much appreciated in advance if anyone can help.
Cheers.
