Hi, I have received a very competitive offer (good chunk more money than the army) in between the swearing in period and commencing BMQ training. Though I am still inclined to go to BMQ and join the Canadian forces, I wanted to know what would happen if one does not show up for BMQ after swearing. Is that an automatic Voluntary Release, or does paperwork still need to be filled out?  Thankyou

So, you don't need an answer to this then?

Hi, if I join the army with a trade that does not have a sign up bonus, then I manage a transfer to a trade that does have a sign up bonus whilst in the army, do I still get a bonus even though I am already signed up. For example, signing up for logistics, then transferring to engineering.  Thanks for shedding light.

Just to make your day.

You know, think you really need to re-evaluate what your priorities are.

agreed. I am by no way employed by the CF, but the way i see it, if you are in any job for the money there is not going to be alot of pay off. You have to want to do what you are doing, even on the *** days.
And i wouldnt suggest 'Just nto showing up' to any job on the first day. It comes back to haunt you when someone does a background check, and is generally short sighted.

You are a member of the Canadian Forces.  You signed a contract for at least three years, maybe more depending on what you signed up for.  It's going to be a long enough process to get out even if you play nice, but if you go AWOL from BMQ you're going to be in for a long tough go.  You'll be charged, probably lose quite a chunk of your first pay cheque, and end up CB'D (confined to barracks) while you rot in PAT platoon awaiting the next available BMQ.  You'll still have inspections, PT, and a whole lot of personal attention from some master corporals, and all for nothing.
If you really want out, then don't waste everyones time, find out who owns you right now, likely its still your recruiting center, go there and put in your VR immediately.  Your course staff will have better things to do than to deal with a bunch of VR's in the first week.  If you think its going to be embarrassing going into the recruiting center and saying you made a mistake, just wait and see the way your course mates look at you when you VR off of BMQ.  I imagine it would be a very lonely and humiliating time.

I think those reply's just about summed it up
good job guys  ;D

FWIW

Aside from the points George has pointed out in ref to the NDA...

Its obvious your commitment to the CF was $$ based.  Mine is not.  Lots of others is not.  Its for more important things.

It saddens me to even see a post of this type, being that our country's best are putting it on the line, and you want to "tap out" after wasting time, effort and $$ from CFRG staff, 'cause you "got a better offer".

However, its a good thing they didn't fit you for DEUs yet, cause that would just waste more money.

just my 2 cents.  Hopefully CFRG can fill your BMQ spot with someone.

Good luck.  Thanks for tapping out for $$.  ::)

You DO realize what forum you are posting this on??  "How can I bow-out of military service after I fooled CFRG into taking me serious."

::)

With all due respect (and I DO mean that), time to step aside friend.  And no, do not collect $200 for passing Go.  Just sad.  ::)

Partly disagree, its better that he/she book it now rather than later when someone might be depending on him/her....

Bruce,

Not sure I know what you mean?

Well, if he/she, AFTER signing a contract, is deciding whether to honour that contract or not doesn't sound like the type of person you want watching your six, now does it?

Sounds too much like a professional athlete to me........ :crybaby:

Totally agree Bruce, totally.  I was attempting to make that point...missed the target maybe.

Again, I think its sad to even see the original post on this site.  There's always one in the crowd?

OR.....

Ask instead to be put into the Primary Reserve....Then you can serve and get your $$$ from your better offer. You apent time looking into the military, and the military spent time and money on you, whynot try both?

Peel potatoes for remainder of contract.

It makes me quite angry to see that you wasted the time someone else might of had/needed of the CFRG who seriously wants to serve...

Going to have to agree with Bruce on this one. . .

My wife just went reg force and started basic this week.  When doing her paperwork at the recruiting center, the group she was with were told if after they swear in, but before they go to St Jean they decide it isn't for them, to make an appointment with a MCC to get out.
