So theres a new website for this.
Um alot of the old pages are broken and I cant seem to find them

for e.g. http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/land-terre/reserve/special/index-eng.asp

Cant find it and that page is broken.

Last year all external website management was transferred to DFPA authority.  All external websites in DND are being removed and replaced by DGPA's WIM (Web Interface Management) sites.  There will be disruptions (unstated)!  WIM forces a common look and feel, official bilingualism and is somewhat like Army On Line to use.  No external websites are authorized outside of WIM without DGPA written permission.  Army on LIne is about to die and all internal websites in the Army are moving to ACIMS (Army Collaborative Information Management Services Powered by SharePoint).  March 2015 is the end date for ACIMS and 2017 is the end date for paperless IM services Army wide.

But how would i find specific pages that are currently dead? Because some dont show up in the website search

It's not likely you will, because they're dead, no longer work and weren't replaced.

A few ways you MIGHT (as in, no guarantees) find older versions of the pages:
1)  try searching for the URL via archive.org,
2)  try a Google search using "cache:<<type in url here>>", 3)  type in the following in the URL box at the top of the browser page:
Code:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:<your url without "http://">
, or
4)  try here:  http://deadurl.com/

As WIN is intended to be a ZERO P/Y manned secondary duty internet presence you are unlikely to see alot soon.  DND is declaring that no one may employ a "webmaster" position below Level 3 and any so employed are to give up their P/Y to DGPA for the good of the department!

The Army (and CF writ large) internet sites are useless.  Stripped of useful information by "Common Look and Feel" fiat, they are deteriorating into Potemkin facades showing only smiling people and shiny things.

DGPA needs to be kicked back down into their tiny little box, with ADM(PA) returned to being a DG under ADM(Pol).

Not to mention making old things/statements/commitments harder to find online - coincidence, I'm sure.

As if the websites were ever easily navigable before with all the broken links from constant changes of addresses, etc.  Now they are taking away the "webmasters" who couldn't keep up with the changes before .......  ::)

This nation (not just the CAF) is falling into the largest pit of incompetence in history.  We really should re-evaluate our policies of how to hire; hiring on merit, not language profiles or useless pieces of paper/certificates hanging on a wall.

Merit ?? How about changing that for "competence". Then if the applicant needs a second language profile IOT be competent for the position, the bilingual person gets the job...

That is reasonable.  However, we have all seen that the criteria that they use in the majority of cases often does not get the most competent person to fill the job positions.

We haven't even touched on 'patronage', found even in the military........

Partially agree with you. In the past I used the CF site for info on various issues, primarily policy papers, historical information etc. The search engine was and remains a farce - every query gets thousands of useless returns. The new CF site makes it very difficult to find information although some is still there - look for example at Boards of Inquiry - at one time there were nearly a dozen available on the site, now its down to three with a statement that BOIs are not generally released to the public. All-in-all the new site is a definite step backwards for DND/CF from an already poor one.

On the other hand this is not a universal problem with Cdn Govt websites. Many are designed to provide info to the public and do so fairly well e.g. Treasury Board, Justice.

The problem seems to be the info that DND/CF system managers wish to bring to the public. DND/CF has always had a habit of not spending time or effort to make its documentation public. Some transparency there huh?
