The US Army is using a wikipedia-type, secure website to rewrite their doctrines in several areas.  Particularly interesting is the deliberate inclusion of NCOs in field units to help write "the book":

"In July, in a sharp break from tradition, the Army began encouraging its personnel — from the privates to the generals — to go online and collaboratively rewrite seven of the field manuals that give instructions on all aspects of Army life."

Hmm - I wonder if LFDTS is looking at something similiar - the results could be interesting to say the least.

The Canadian Army has been including WOs and NCOs in doctrine and CTS writing for as long as I can remember. We also have a Lessons Learned system that while not perfect, has come a long way and is at least as good as any used by our ABCA partners. The LL team in KAF includes a Sgt Maj and makes a point of interviewing NCOs. The data is then collected and reported back, CLAS and UNCLAS. Any serving soldier  is invited to make comments about any of the LL products by using the ALLC link athttp://armyapp.dnd.ca/allc-clra/default_e.asp. There is a close link between ALLC and the Director of Army Doctrine, the Army Staff College and the Peace Support Training Centre.

What the training establishments decide to do, (or not do) with the info that ALLC provides is up to their Commandants and the Director of Army Training.

Cheers
