The E-3 (AWACS) is located in the midwest of the U.S. and the E-8 (JSTARS) is located in the Southern portion of the U.S. E-3 and E-8 stand for the USAF aircraft designation based on mission type. I.E. F-15, F-16 stand for fighter.
