Really when you talk about dangerous cities, you’re probably talking about dangerous neighbourhoods. Aggregating such stats to entire cities really skews analysis that probably should be looking at urban cores, or certain troubled neighbourhoods or districts.

You can go three blocks in some parts of some citizens and have a radical different vibe between point A and point B.

The entertainment district in downtown Victoria is the worst for various types of violence because: entertainment ;)

Why crime severity score is Victoria 148, Oak Bay 29. Hint: partying

Victoria police chief says workload is not being shared fairly. Regional force makes sense, says criminology professor.

Behind a number of chain grocery stores here there is a Manitoba Housing Project. They are beacons for trouble. Not just in the core either - in the so called "safer" sections.

Yup, bar/entertainment districts always get more than their fair share of stupidity. Alcohol, drugs, and testosterone poisoning…

Just yesterday's news. You would be able to interpret the data for readers.

They get more than their fair share of revenue too. Victoria doesn’t get much sympathy from other muni’s in the region as they rake in the bucks from nightlife and cruise ship/ other tourist trade.

I’m trying to make sense of which statistic this purports to be and I can’t. It doesn’t match the Crime Severity Index, but it’s WAY too low to be a total criminal incidents per 100k it may be using a subset of certain offences, but that’s not clear.

Anyway, coarse crime stats kinda suck because the aggregate to Census Metropolitan Area. They don’t tell you much save for allowing for following broad trends over time and chucking political shit. Meaningful, useful crime data are much more local than that.

How does provincial funding work in B.C.?

Is municipal funding based only on the census population, or its commuter population in town for work, business, pleasure, or whatever?

If not, unlike the so-called Regional "bedroom communities", there will always be more people requiring service than the "muni" has been funded for by the province.

Well it certainly can’t be raccoons per dumpster…

We don’t need to turn this into a Military Police thread.

Well, some of the entertainment stumbles/waddles/crawls/vomits down the street, falling into other stumblers/waddlers/crawlers/vomiters, kicking off more unsanctioned MMA/punchee punch or stabbee stab, leading to more entertainment for those not sober enough to wander/stumble/crawl/fall away...and the circle of life continues.
