Hi, I’m currently in the process of joining the CAF as a AVN Tech and have some question about the training. Once I have completed BMQ and sent to basic Occupational Qualification Training how is it? Would basic Occupational Qualification Training be like college with written test and exams ? Can you fail Basic Occupational Qualification Training, And what happens if you fail basic Occupational Qualification Training.

I see it's been a while since this was discussed, but I wanted to chime in. For anyone going through BMQ and waiting for their next course, how long did you have to wait? I’ve heard timelines can vary a lot depending on the trade and location, so I’m curious what others have experienced. Also, did anyone find anything helpful to do during that waiting period to stay ready?

it is correct that it will depend heavily on the trade. I have seen members go direct from basic to trade training while others have had to wait almost a year. I have on several occasions had the school contact me to see if I was willing to employ a member for a few months while they waited for their trade training. it all seems to be a hit or miss situation with numerous variables in play.

Every trade is different. Some have multiple courses a year, some one per year and some alternate years. Some have further delays waiting on security clearance - and if your clearance isn't complete in time you may we'll have to wait for the next serial.
