3 Wing Change of Command “Delayed”

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to a scandal that Tailhook does though.

While some older callsigns may have that connotation, most don’t.
Can they be misinterpreted to be inuendo?

We are right back to "impact, not intent" these days, so what you intended the callsign to mean doesn't make it less offensive.

I guess any callsign could be taken as a sexual innuendo given the right context. We called someone by his initials which happened to be DP and that was a childhood nickname. There was absolutely no sexual connotation in the intent but his initials, and childhood nickname, could be seen as such. Should it had been changed? I am not sure but I am open to a healthy discussion. I am not too interested in saving the institution’s face but more on real harm that can be done to people.

I had a friend with the same initials, and prior to the internet really taking off nobody really batted an eye at it.

I'm not advocating for the current state of things, just pointing out that someone misinterpreting the intent is enough to kick off an investigation, particularly at the top.

Well, when do we start to force people to change their last names because it was deemed offensive? I know of one instance where an individual was not allowed to use their real last name in the military.

He probably just didn't know any better.

We should probably start doing training about this stuff.

Solid suggestion, Jarnhammer!

Odds are, as soon as such a training/awesomeness *awareness program is established/put in place, people will get the message and conduct themselves accordingly.

Edit: * for spelling - although the autocorrect was worth a chuckle…

Or we could just ignore the life-sucking, soulless, pieces of moronic trash who would be insulted by calling someone by their initials.

I had to look up DP for craps sake,.....id just tell them to keep thier pathetic pornagraffic filled thoughts to themselves.

Does this mean I wouldn't go far these days??......oh wait I didn't go far 30 years ago either.🤪

Good point… 💩

;)

But on topic, if the attendees at a CSRB can’t stay away from being offensive during the proceedings, let alone potentially assign a tone-deaf offensive call-sign, there are a few folks who need to put on RMs until they get it…

Oh, we stopped caring about misconduct that happened years ago now? RCAF Fighter pilots better get real smart real quick and run new callsign boards for anything that they think could be offensive, theyre not above (flight pun intended) having them taken away.

Hyper sensitivity rules the day. I do not envy the CDS or any of the ECS that have to put up with this shit.

Our units in 38 CBG when a certain Reg Force Armored officer - one or two of you might know him - commanded it put it very succinctly - shit like this distracts us from the purpose and roles we fill.

I'll take the time here to point out that virtually everyone in the CAF was a civvy once....and civvy workplaces are just as bad, if not worse.

Yea but civy workplaces aren't full of guys/girls trying to step on each other to get ahead.
