It is the MRZR-D4 (Diesel variant of the MRZR-4). The Army purchased 36 to provide 12 for each of the light battalions as a buy and try as a means of providing an increase to soldier mobility. How they are being employed is TBD.
That article you referenced was pretty out to lunch. DAGOR was never competed against Flyer 72 for SOCOM's 'Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1' (GMV 1.1) program. GMV 1.1 is a replacement for the HMMWV based original Ground Mobility Vehicle variant. Contract was awarded for GMV back in 2013. ...
Funny enough, one of the contenders for the US Army's 'Ground Mobility Vehicle' (GMV) project is a joint venture between Jeep and Hendrick Motorsports: http://www.commandousa.com/
Good backgrounder on the US Army's GMV project is: ...
The contract award you reference is for a separate program than the ULCV.
ULCV is essentially a HMMWV replacement program for CANSOFCOM. Likely competitors are Polaris' DAGOR, Supacat HMT, GDLS GMV, Boeing Phantom Badger, etc.
Read the article, and while I respect a lot of what Storr has to say, given an asymetric battlefield with likely irregular forces proliferating who are working on their own turf, the element of stealth is something I don't think we'll achieve in such an operational environment.
Vehicle needs to...
ULCV has no requirement for armour. The concept of operations is for it to be primarily used off-road/cross-country so as to avoid likely IED emplacement areas (i.e. roads) and provide a mobility platform for light infantry.
James Hasik has probably the best synopsis which I've come across so...
I was one of their 2 North American Sales Reps from 2011-2012 and am very familiar with the product.
General care and maintenance is pretty straight forward. If you're using the bladder just with water, it's pretty stable and doesn't require any real maintenance or cleaning for the bag or...
Small world:
Mark Gasparotto's wife used to babysit my daughter when they lived in Fredericton, and I built him a customized tac-vest when I was at CPGear, circa 2008.
Steve Graham was DS on the RESO 3 course I was a driver for back in 1996.
Mason Stalker and I were Army Cadets together in BC...
A boot allowance should be based on the expected service life of issued footwear and the replacement cost of that footwear.
If the boot is designed to last 2 years and costs the crown $165, then the boot allowance would be $165 every 2 years.
I watched an interesting episode of 'The Nature of Things' last night regarding Lyme Disease and its spread in Canada.
All of the field researchers made a point to tuck their pant legs into their socks or wear gaiters of some sort to avoid having (infected) ticks crawl up their legs. From a...
Simple fix:
Resurrect the MkIII as the general purpose combat boot but with the following mods:
CADPAT Brown full grain leather
Speed lacing
Padded collar at the top & leather pull tab
Vibram/EVA composite sole
MkIII generally worked and was durable for 30+ years of service. Canadian industry...
Like the 'Tiger Team' report that a former CLS put together to 'Fix the Tac-Vest Problem' only to have that initiative quashed by budgetary cutbacks? ...UCRs were submitted, DLR became aware of the equipment shortcoming and started a corrective course of action, then program scaled back and now...
The 'Secret Projects' forum has a good thread discussing a Leopard 3 'Casement Tank' concept that the Germans were looking at in the early 1980s which would likely have given the basis for the Corps 86 Chimera concept.

So what's the protocol on the new high visibility name tapes and rank insignia? I notice the CAC wearing both the name tape and rank insignia, but the Army RSM has mixed accoutrements.
Is high vis only for garrison, while the subdued for field/operational wear?
It's a serious stretch that the Army PR news machine is saying the one of the TAPV's primary mission tasks is natural disaster response.
As for actual PRes training on the TAPV, as per the fielding plan previously mentioned in this thread, the PRes Armoured units will likely start running PCF...
I'm assuming that by wearing the cloth PPCLI shoulder title on the DEU, the metal shoulder title will not be worn on the epaulet strap?
-Would look pretty silly to wear both at the same time.
