    Global Warming/Climate Change Super Thread

I opined that, in my view, for certain people in certain situations, I think owning one is impractical. You opined that people who don't own one, should. This getting tiresome.

Active Shooter In NS. April 19 2020

I'm actually kinda surprised SAR doesn't have IR. I would have thought it might be helpful looking for somebody bobbing in the water but what do I know. Flying low and slow enough to pick up reasonably useful heat signatures sounds like a bad idea if you are in an environment where somebody is...

Yes, it was an opinion, just like yours was: I made no pronouncement on what other people should or should not drive. You're starting to sounds like you're yelling at clouds.

    Global Warming/Climate Change Super Thread

I'm a truck fan myself, but if you're an urban dweller who's only need is to drive to work and pick-up groceries, they are wildly impractical. You woulld struggle to get them into a condo parking spot, townhouse garage or even a lot of retail parking spots the way they are painting them now...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Transformers and cables don't care but a lot of the rest of the infrastructure does. All the technology loaded into grids now makes it more complex including all of the self-protection technology required to be part of an international synchronous grid. The grid was originally designed to take...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Ya, fair point (although getting a ship near Niagara Falls might be tricky). I qualified the Great Lakes as 'ship dependent' and the Arctic would be seasonally dependent. My point of shore-side transmission remains valid. There is little point in having a multi-megawatt generator parked at...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

Fresh Fresh Fresh I'm not a huge fan of shellfish either with the exception of scallops, but once you've had it essentially off the pier, the stuff that is available to us in Central Canada simply can't compare. Fresh water fish is the same. In n/w Ontario I could get a Walleye meal...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Interesting concept but we have a lot of landmass (and population) that is a long way from the sea (the Great Lakes, maybe, depending on the size of the ship), and every km of transmission adds losses. The utility infrastructure would have to be located shore-side in sufficient capacity to...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

Exactly what I said - they pay for police services. Not "many" communities - every community, so long as it is an organized municipality. When Renfrew had its own service, it certainly wasn't free, so the OPP isn't "extra". Most smaller municipalities have ditched their police service simply...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

A bit of pedantic diversion, but Valley folk, like pretty much everybody else in Ontario, don't "pay extra"; they pay for police service. Mike Harris drove funding of policing services down to the municipal level in the early '90s. Any municipality is free to have their own service or pay...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

Interesting concept that has obvious precedent in places like the US and Australia. How the nitty gritty would work out here is unknown since it would have to start with a Constitutional amendment. I'm not sure of a province-within-a-province is jurisdictionally sound, and if you create some...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

I didn't follow the Inquiry closely; was there evidence of that? Telling a police service not to do its job is different that not telling them to do it. Admittedly, even the second element has problems of interpretation, in Ontario anyway, because of the way the Police Services Act is written...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

I generally agree with recent comments. Some media and others have been playing up different views and opinions presented as evidence of confusion or lack of leadership, but that's the way large organizations work. Advisors and departments provide advice that may vary from each other, but the...

    medical history

You don't get arrested, spend time in custody, get psych evaluations and an NCR verdict, for trespassing. There's a difference between a "hypothesis" and diagnosis. Except for the attendance and 'sticking it out' parts it seems.

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

They all are. The are all beholden to and mouthpieces for 'the centre' (PMO), which JT's dad really got going. At the provincial level, they're the same. When she was SolGen, Sylvia Jones was noted for being less than whelming. I'm expecting the same now that she is in charge of Health. I...

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

I'm not so sure. Right now three entities get to sit at federal-provincial conferences, sent delegates to Ottawa and otherwise whine for federal dollar. I think fewer but geographically larger provinces would be gift to the federal government and create further imbalance.

Some would say north of Steeles Ave. (or wherever the street lights stop). It would rival NL for federal equalization payments. Pretty much all of the wealth generated in the resource industries is reported either from Toronto or offshore.

Freedom Convoy protests [Split from All things 2019-nCoV]

That party has been around in one form or another since the '70s. Its platform flips between advocating for secession and just advocating for northern interests. They get hundreds of votes. I'm not even sure there is broad consensus one what 'northern Ontario' means.

    Pursuit suspect steals multiple vehicles

Quite a collection of coppers by the end. It seems the every square inch of Greater LA airspace is covered by a media helicopter. Cops and wildlife is usually entertaining. Horses and cattle are pretty easy if you don't go nuts. My only adventure was a bull in the ditch (fell out of the back...
